Considering Bible College? – Aaron Waters

A few years ago I began to understand how important Bible college is for every believer. As Christians we should study the Scriptures, as it says of the Bereans in Acts 17:11 “… with eagerness they examined the scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
This is why in September of this year I will be attending located in North Cotes, Lincolnshire.
We should be like those Bereans or like those who Peter encouraged in 1 Peter 3:15: ”… always being ready to make a defence to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.”
How can we do this if we don’t spend time studying His word? That’s why I think formal Bible training is the correct way to go, as Paul said to Timothy in 2 Tim. 2:15. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” By attending a good Bible College, we can be instructed by experienced teachers of God’s Word who can help us to correctly divide God’s Truth.

We should also have a desire for the lost, to give them an opportunity to respond to the Gospel. It is hard to witness to people because of the questions or the beliefs they have. I often fi nd that Christians are apprehensive to witness because they are afraid that they won’t have the answers.
By having Biblical training, we can have the answers to those hard-hitting questions and have the answers for those with different faiths. We don’t need to study the ‘Quran’ to witness to Muslims or read the ‘Book of Mormon’ to speak to Mormons. We just need to search the Scriptures for the real answers.
I prayed many times for a door to open for further studies. I looked into all different kinds of Bible colleges. There were a lot! Eventually I came across New Tribes Mission, which jumped out at me. It is designed for preparing Christians to go to the mission fi eld. By having this mindset in the college, students are taught theology, evangelism, mission work and practical work for service. With it being a boarding college, I will have the opportunity for lots of Godly fellowship with like-minded people. This is a perfect opportunity for me to strengthen my walk with God and give me a fi rm understanding of biblical doctrine and provide me with the time to seek the Lord’s will for my life.
In an incredible way that could only be God, I with my family moved to a new church, where my dad was taking up the pastoral ministry. To my surprise the new church had a long standing connection with NTM, which was in itself a wonderful confirmation of God’s leading. They as a church are willing to support me prayerfully as I seek the Lords direction. God is good!
